THE UPD PROJECT WAS INITIATED BY SEVERAL VISIONARIES WHO ARE NOT INDIFFERENT TO THE ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEMS OF OUR PLANET. THE UPD INSTALLATION IS BASED ON THE IDEA OF A CLOSED LOOP, WHICH LOOKS EXTREMELY PROMISING IN THE PROJECTION OF FUTURE PROSPECTS.

Captain Donald Walsh Posthumously, Forever - Honorary Member of the Board of Directors Captain is a world-renowned explorer of the Earth's oceans. He was the captain of the bathyscaphe Trieste, which in 1960 was the first to reach the Challenger Deep, the deepest point of the Mariana Trench. In 1989-1990, Captain Walsh, together with Captain Marichev and Tatyana Kirillova, founded the first Soviet-American private company Soyuz Marine Service (SMS) in the USSR. The founders of the company were: Marichev and Kirillova's shipbuilding company Odessa (USSR), Captain Walsh's company INTERNATIONAL MARINE, INC. (USA), INTERTORG (USA), and the Shirshov Institute of Oceanology (USSR). In the fall of 2020, Captain Marichev approached Captain Walsh with a proposal to evaluate the possibility of combating plastic pollution of the oceans using the proposed technologies and to head the company created for these purposes. Captain Walsh supported the idea of creating a company and recommended contacting Dr. Picard to evaluate the capabilities of the technology. He also suggested contacting the Club of the Oceans Elders, informing them that he had recommended contacting them, but he himself declined to participate in the project due to his advanced age. In effect, Captain Walsh gave us his blessing to work on our project. The WSC Board of Directors has decided to posthumously inscribe Commander Walsh as an Honorary Director of the WSC.
